Two Asymptotic Models for Arrays of Underground Waste Containers

چکیده

We study the homogenization of two models of an underground nuclear waste repository. The nuclear waste cells are periodically stored in the middle of a geological layer and are the only source terms in a parabolic evolution problem. The diffusion constants have a very large contrast between the fuel repository and the soil. It is thus a combined problem of homogenization and singular perturbation. For two different asymptotic contrasts we give the homogenized limit problem which is rigorously justified by using two-scale convergence. Eventually we perform 2-d numerical computations to show the effectiveness of using the limit model instead of the original one.

Mathematical Modelling of an Array of Nuclear Waste Containers

The goal of this paper is to give a mathematical model describing the global behaviour of the nuclear waste disposal process. The physical situation can be described as an array made of high number of alveoles inside of a low permeable layer (e.g. clay) included between two layers with slightly higher permeability (e.g. limestone). Radioactive elements are leaking from their containers over a p...

Using Simulation to Assess the Opportunities of Dynamic Waste Collection

In this paper, we illustrate the use of discrete event simulation to evaluate how dynamic planning methodologies can be best applied for the collection of waste from underground containers. We present a case study that took place at the waste collection company Twente Milieu, located in The Netherlands. Even though the underground containers are already equipped with motion sensors, the plannin...

Profiles of covering arrays of strength two

Covering arrays of strength two have been widely studied as combinatorial models of software interaction test suites for pairwise testing. While numerous algorithmic techniques have been developed for the generation of covering arrays with few columns (factors), the construction of covering arrays with many factors and few tests by these techniques is problematic. Random generation techniques c...
